About Slatterys

Slatterys is proud to be housed in the Oude Westhof Farmhouse.

The history of the farm as we know it…

Oude Westhof Farm along with the van Riebeeckshof Farm (across the valley) are of the oldest wine farm sites in Bellville.

Slatterys restaurant - Old wine cellar

The farmhouse as well as the derelict building (once used as the wine cellar) both dates back to 1886.

The original kitchen of the farmhouse now serves as the Slatterys Bar. The heart of the home is always the kitchen, clearly why the bar area has such a warm welcoming feel.

The wagons would park in the open space alongside the farmhouse, where you now find our restaurant entrance.

The front rooms of the house, overlooking the garden, served as bedrooms for the first owners of the house.

In 1862, prior to the wine farm, the van Riebeeckshof Mineral Company bottled water from the two natural springs which were found on the property. You can still see them today, one just beyond the river toward Welgedacht and the other across van Riebeeckshof Road where the open field is.

After decades of neglect this charming farmhouse was lovingly restored 10 years ago and stands proudly at the bottom of Kanonkop.

Both the farmhouse and the Oak Trees are protected by the National Heritage Council.
